My precious…
In reply to Dave Neary’s latest blog :
Free Software does not belong to anyone and that’s what’s great about it. Even with our company redesigning 90% of the GStreamer framework it’s not ours, it’s not yours either, no owner… that’s freedom.
Now that key people are spread across multiple companies, notion of property has just become more foolish than it ever was.
Who owns it ? Sun, Fluendo, Access, Intel, Collabora, Nokia, OpenedHand, Imendio, Hantro, CoreCodec, You ? One answer to rule them all : Not Yours ! (Yes MikeS, like the poney !
)
On our side we’ve reached our goal : we are not alone anymore, the project has a bright future and is robust enough for our babies (products) to grow up.
GStreamer is getting just as good and as useful as GTK+ and the last argument I was hearing against using it : And what happens if you guys at Fluendo stop investing in it ? is GONE
By the way we haven’t stopped investing in GStreamer. On the opposite we are doing something that’s very important for such a project : renew the community by bringing fresh blood. I will blog about that later though…
